Focus on Youthful Image

Diesel has always focused on targeting its products towards a younger, trendier audience. This is also true of Diesel watches, which accompany the clothing line and are sold as lifestyle products.

One of the main figures responsible for this successful strategy is Wilbert Das who joined the company in 1988. He overseas all creative decisions, including its licensed collections consisting of jewellery and Diesel watches.

Continuing to Innovate

Diesel has proved itself to be an innovative and stylish brand, and Diesel watches are now popular all around the world for their style and quality. The Difference Between A Model And A Beauty Queen

The Difference Between A Model And A Beauty Queen

There is a huge difference between beauty pageants and modelling. Pageant kids are brought up believing that the spotlight is all about them; how they look, what they can do and how they come across as an individual. They are taught to sell themselves. Unfortunately, in the real fashion world, it is all about the product and selling the product. Although fashion and runway models do need to have specific aesthetic qualities and certain skills, their main purpose is to make a product look good, excite the customer and make them want to buy.

Pageant mums are known for being extremely competitive. They all want to be at the top of the game, knowing the most about the industry, winning the most titles and crowns and having the most beautiful, talented, world-peace loving child in the whole entire world. But what these mums don’t realise is that they are selling their children false hope when they promise them that, one day, all of the late rehearsals, dance classes, American history lessons and hair tugging will be worth it. This is not the case. So many young pageant princesses dreams are crushed when they discover that all those years of intense training; skipping rhythmically down the runway, smiling all teeth bared and cutely flipping their hair as they wink and flirt with the audience, has actually moulded them into exactly what a fashion agency is not looking for in a high-fashion model.

A huge amount of time, effort and money is put into beauty pageants. A lot of pageant mums will hire pageant coaches and dance coaches, both at a great cost. They will then spend a fortune on outfits for each of the different rounds. Elaborate, custom-made ball gowns, one of a kind swimwear pieces, costumes, props and stage fixtures for the talent show, crowning gowns etc. Then there’s the foot high, 30 inch long hair pieces, custom moulded dental flippers to hide any baby/imperfect teeth, copious pairs of diamond encrusted shoes, fake lashes, jar after jar and tube after tube of bright pink blusher, thick stage foundation, lipstick and glitter. All of this is used to enhance the pageant princess’ features, body and overall image and make them look as un-lifelike as possible, all in the hope of being crowned Queen of Pageant.

Fashion designers will also invest an enormous amount of time, effort and money into a fashion show for their clothing. This money will be spent on lighting, sound engineers, stage support, models, stylists and hair and make-up artists, all geared towards ensuring that their clothes attract the audience of buyers and celebrities.

Unlike pageant girls, runway models do not try to steal the show. The point of a fashion show is to sell clothes, not people. If the model blew kisses, danced around the stage like a fairy, distracting the audience and did not make the dress look good, the designer would not sell their clothes and therefore not have a business. This is why pageant …

3D Printed Fashion – Is This the Choice for the Future?

3D Printed Fashion – Is This the Choice for the Future?

3D printing has revolutionized production in many industries. Right from making custom automobile parts to special prosthetics in the medical world, this is a technology that promises new things in years to come. It is also used actively in prototyping and has allowed designers to try new things without spending half of the initial budgets as before. No wonder, the fashion industry has acknowledged the use of 3D printing, and there are a few brands that focus on clothing and accessories are created out of this technology. So, is 3D printed fashion the next big thing? Let’s take a look at some of the aspects.

Why 3D Printing May Work for The Fashion Industry?

Fashion is one industry that focuses on creative and innovative ideas. In short, designers, labels, and brands try their best to avoid repetition. As such, the whole process of designing needs to be streamlined, and as we focus on art and aesthetics, it is also important to reduce the costs and expenses. 3D printing offers that kind of flexibility, for extremely low costs. You can modify, change, and redesign things from scratch and don’t need to invest in manufacturing as expected. A large segment of the fashion industry focuses on customized goods and exclusive accessories, which can cost a lot more with the traditional manufacturing process. With 3D printing, even the smaller brands can find a niche and can start production in no time.

Are There Any Hiccups?

Yes. Despite the projected potential, the use of 3D printing in the fashion industry is still limited. Most of the brands have expressed their concerns over the choice of materials, which aren’t always right for clothing. 3D printing basically prints products in solids, so you cannot expect the kind of comfort as fabrics. Also, clothing, in particular, can be complicated, as the printed “outfits” will neither absorb moisture or are breathable, and therefore, the overall comfort is quite compromised.

The New Age of Accessories

While more innovation is needed before we can get complete clothing collections, accessories have taken a leap with this technology. With 3D printed fashion, you can get some amazing products, which are anything but ordinary. In fact, a few brands have created a niche with 3D printing, and they can get customized products for your needs, with all the necessary requirements. Some of these companies are changing the way in which people perceive fashion, and you can only expect more in days to come. No matter whether you are trying to get custom accessories for your brand or want to innovate products for your personal needs, 3D printing can help, and some brands can ensure that your requirements are met.

As the technology gets better, it remains to be seen as how 3D printing influences runway fashion. For now, you can try some quirky ideas and can even play with designer fashion choices. Check online, and you can find brands and companies that specialize in creating such products and have options for different client …

High School Wrestling: John Jesse’s Wisdom on Strength and Conditioning

High School Wrestling: John Jesse’s Wisdom on Strength and Conditioning

In 1974, a book entitled Wrestling Physical Conditioning Encyclopedia was published. This book was written by a man named John Jesse.

Conditioning coach Vernon Gambetta writes, "You are probably asking who is John Jesse? John Jesse was an expert on strength training, injury prevention and rehabilitation from Southern California."

I never knew of this book’s existence until recently even though it’s obviously been around a long time. I came across it while surfing the internet and researching wrestling conditioning.

I borrowed a copy from the public library and found it really fascinating. John Jesse’s book doesn’t seem that outdated even though it was published 38 years ago. He really knew a lot about strength and conditioning.

So, what did he know?

Year-Round Training

Jesse emphasizes the importance of continuity in training. Continuous year-round physical training is imperative if a wrestler wishes to be successful. When discussing the importance of continuity he points out that, “Repeated efforts are required for the formation of conditioned-reflexes in the nervous system required for the development of great skill.”

A wrestler needs to train continuously the entire calendar year. However, Jesse recognizes the importance of breaking down the yearly training into cycles. Jesse divides the year-round training into four cycles.

The Four Cycles

  • Transition (Active Rest) Cycle – a period of one month immediately following the competitive season
  • Basic (Foundation) Cycle – a period of five months divided into three stages
  • Principal (Specific Preparation) Cycle – a period of two months
  • Competitive – generally a period of four months

Jesse advises to take one week totally off immediately following the season and then begin the transition cycle. However, you are not to engage in any wrestling or skills work during the transition cycle. During that cycle one should abstain from any wrestling, but you need to begin training for strength, endurance, and flexibly again. If you take too long of a break the physical attributes you’ve gained will begin to dissipate.

I’m sure that most of you have learned about the concept of periodization. Well, as you can see, that’s exactly what John Jesse is writing about.

In this current age, periodization is still used. Periodization is basically just planning your training. Dr. Fred Hatfield (a.k.a. Dr. Squat) is a big advocate of periodization. In an article entitled The Simplicity of Periodicity he writes of the “tremendous value of short-term periodization in your training.”

Moreover, he adds, “As your competition draws nearer and nearer, your training objectives change, and therefore your training methods change commensurably.”

Sports scientist Tudor Bompa has said, “We either have periodization or chaos.”

John Jesse writes something very similar in his book. He states, “Without a long-range training plan the athlete’s training can easily degenerate into chaos.”

Jesse knew what he was talking about.

Do you think champion wrestlers only work out during wrestling season? Do you think they train in some haphazard fashion? No! They train year-round with a well developed plan in mind just like John Jesse advocated and …

Gold Chains For Guys – The Perfect Gift For Your Boyfriend?

Gold Chains For Guys – The Perfect Gift For Your Boyfriend?

A lot of girls are hesitant about buying gold chains for guys. But if you ask me, I think it’s one of the best gifts that you can give to your boyfriend. More and more guys are wearing different pieces of jewelry everyday and gold necklaces may be right up your boyfriend’s alley. The best part is that they are widely available in many different places and they’re not too expensive if you know where to look. So have you ever thought about getting a gold chain for your man?

First of all, you need to consider whether he would like it as a gift or not. Take a look at his wardrobe and how he accessorizes it. Gold chains are most often worn by men who value fashion. Take a look at how he dresses. Does he wear rings? Does he wear other types of jewelry? Does he pay a lot of attention to the way he dresses? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then a gold chain might be a good fit.

Even if your boyfriend does not value fashion but likes classy items, he might enjoy wearing a necklace. Some guys feel a bit of trepidation about wearing a chain around their neck, but once they realize that it is okay with their girlfriend to do so, they might realize that it is a growing fashion trend. Even though men have been wearing necklaces for years and years, only within the last few years has it really become a trend. Perhaps it is time to bring your boyfriend out of his “fashion shell” and introduce him to something new. Who knows? After a while it may latch on and he could start wearing nicer clothes and caring more about his looks.

Think about how much you would like to spend on your gold chain before you go out to make a purchase. Even though you could easily spend thousands of dollars on high quality gold jewelry, gold chains for guys can cost as little as $30 to $50 if you shop in the right places. What are the right places? Most people would say you should shop online. The internet is your source for an unlimited number of great deals. All you really need to do is hop on your favorite search engine and search for “men’s gold chains” or “gold chains for guys” and you should see tons of online shops in the search results. Take some time to look around at the inventory of these online shops to see if you can get a good deal. Remember to always factor in shipping and handling costs.

So, whether your man is already into good fashion or you are looking to introduce him to it, gold chains make excellent gifts for men. Think about purchasing one for that special guy in your life during the next holiday or special event. Do some searching around the web and you will certainly be able to …

The Low-Down on This Summer’s Shades

The Low-Down on This Summer’s Shades

It seems like there is a worldwide plot to alter trends in sunglasses on a nearly yearly basis. It fails of course, but eventually something that should have never been in the first place becomes a trend through sheer persistence. Growing up we had a drawer in our house that held nothing but sunglasses of every size, shape and color. My parents finally sold that house and while moving them recently we rediscovered the drawer. Inside was a fifty year history of sunglasses in America. My sisters inspected each pair recalling who they belonged to and what vacation they were from or what boy they were dating at the time. My two daughters were of course ecstatic and gleefully picked out the ones they wanted, which was nearly all of them.

Back then only a few designers had gotten into the sunglasses game. We of course had Ray-Bans and Oakleys, which cost plenty, but there were no Dior, Gucci or Armani sunglasses to be found when I was growing up. Today you can’t throw a stick in an optometrist’s office without hitting a dozen designer frames. I’m not so vain that I will only wear the latest fashions, but if I’m dropping some money on a pair I prefer to get something that’s at least in style right now.

Oversized sunglasses are still in for better or worse. I tried a few frames by Gucci and Prada and laughed because some were so big they looked more like a mask than sunglasses. No, I don’t have an especially small face. Like all designer trends, they’ve taken it a step closer to ridiculous in an attempt to be unique. What is new is the variety of lens shapes and colors. I still can’t look at them without thinking of Charlie’s Angels.

Aviator glasses are also still in, but have undergone some kind of fashion inflicted mutation. Double frames, rose tinted gradient lenses, oh my. These have never been my go to as they just simply look like dude glasses. It doesn’t matter how well you do your hair, how sexy you dress or even how red your lipstick is, you still look like you’re wearing your brother’s sunglasses.

Of course cat eye sunglasses are back because they’re fabulous. I’m hoping this is a style that never goes away and even if it does I’m still wearing them until the day I die. I had a pair of black and green Armani’s with full tint lenses that made the beach at noon look like the dark side of the moon. I tried to find another pair after mine were lost somewhere between Nassau and Chicago, but they don’t sell that model anymore which is horrible.

If you do pick up a new pair of sunglasses this summer, remember not to throw your old ones out. Put them in that drawer with all the others so that someday you can pass them on. Plus you never know, they could come back in style.…

Review on the First Episode of Gene Simmon's Family Jewels

Review on the First Episode of Gene Simmon's Family Jewels

A & E is the place to watch the latest version of the family reality show genre started by the Osbournes on MTV. However, there are a few major differences between Gene Simmon's Family Jewels, and the Osbournes, the zany British family led by rocker Ozzy Osbourne and boisterous wife Sharon. The Osbournes enjoyed such a huge audience mainly because the viewers really felt like they were getting a true, fly-on-the-wall view of one of rock's first families. Ozzy, Sharon, Jack and Kelly really never came across as actors; They did not need to. Their own reality was so completely odd and unpredictable that watching paint dry in the Osbourne household was a privilege. However, Kiss frontman Gene "The Tongue" Simmons comes across as the lead actor in a show where his family looks to him to identify their individual roles, especially Simmons' common-law wife, Shannon Tweed, who was once Playboy Playmate of the year . In the premiere episode we see Shannon trying to one up Gene, who announces (to the cameras) that he is planning a surprise party for her birthday. The kids respond to his announcement in a predictable fashion – with disbelief. How on Earth would daddy Gene, which clueless approach to the real world (we see him bathing the family dog by throwing the dog into the pool and struggling to run a dishwasher), know the very basics of party planning? Also, given the theme of the first episode – that Gene is truly the King of his manse, to what all must defer – would Gene be unselfish enough to give his time and energy to his common-law wife?

Gene and Shannon have been together for 23 years, and remain (in Gene's view) "happily unmarried." We learn quickly that Gene's reluctance to commit to the woman who has borne both of the couple's children is a source of amusement to the two teenagers, Nick and Sophie, and a source of distress to Shannon. But, does Gene care? Not if you believe what you see at the outside of the episode. Gene says to the camera "Marriage is an institution. You also have to be committed to it. Shannon's answer to Gene's unique attitude is "If someone does not marry you after 23 years, it means you're a loser." Could you imagine Sharon Osbourne being so self-effacing? Are you kidding – Sharon was the ultimate matriarch! Shannon's own teenage son even chimes in to support his wayward father. "It's good being a bachelor," he says laughing. Sad. Another future divorcee or serial monogamist in the making, compliments of Gene Simmons.

Gene then takes the cameras along for an all out bachelor night in Vegas. Just for the heck of it, he leaves his family and goes to Hooters. The girls are draped all over Gene, seeing a human cash register because there is not much else to look at. We see the Alpha male at his coolest – driving the bubbleheads around in a limousine …

Commercial Print Modeling Vs Editorial Print Modeling

Commercial Print Modeling Vs Editorial Print Modeling

When you think or hear of the word “commercial” in regards to the modeling industry, there are a few variations of the meaning, but in the most practical form regarding “print” photography think of the word “promote”. The model’s job is to be photographed “promoting” a product or service in a print ad (for example… in magazines, brochures, newspapers, catalogues, etc.). There are numerous opportunities for COMMERCIAL PRINT MODELS that exist all over the United States and internationally. The ad may range from the smallest business promoting its’ livelihood all the way to large corporations who can afford their own advertising agencies to handle marketing campaigns.

Commercial Print Modeling is very different from Editorial Print Modeling. Remember that an “editorial” is a magazine fashion “story” of the trend that is happening at that particular moment, not a specific advertisement for any one company, even though you will see multiple credits cited in small print of the stores and designers of the featured garments and accessories. Some ads that you may see in magazines may be elaborately spread out and photographed in an “editorial-style”, but it is ultimately a “commercial” ad if it is promoting one company name. It makes a nifty, high fashion looking ad, though, because that is the style ad that they are marketing to their specific consumers.

Usually, though, the editorial model and their style of modeling don’t represent the particular looks that can be marketed to a large group of average, “every-day” consumers (a.k.a. the people who buy). Consumers buy from ads that they can relate to or strive to achieve. This is where a commercial model may have a wonderful chance of success because their image is a part of the marketing process that sells to the consumer. They represent a highly approachable and marketable look. So, for whatever product they are promoting their look can vary dependent upon what product or service is being advertised to the consumer. That means the door is open to many different types and sizes of models. Take note, that there are actually some editorial fashion models that are able to cross over from editorial modeling into the diverse commercial advertising side. That’s so ideal for a career model who wants longevity. The commercial model doesn’t usually have just one look even though there may be one special look that gets them hired over and over.

This is where the terminology variations form and can cause confusion to whether a model is considered an editorial-type or commercial-type of model. Remember the prestige title? It’s placed on editorial models, but there is something wonderful to be said for being a successful working commercial model, too. “Commercial” is a term that the general public thinks of as ads that they see on television or hear on the radio. The terminology used by an advertising agency versus a modeling agency when referring to “commercial” has different degrees of meanings, too, depending on how they interpret the booking.

Being in a television commercial …
