The Importance of Jewelry in Our Daily Lives

The Importance of Jewelry in Our Daily Lives

Jewelry is categorized under two subdivisions, contemporary and traditional, each displaying attractive and eye catching designs. Both classic groups exhibit jewelry constituting of precious gem stones, gold, silver, other metals and natural materials.

The primary objective of wearing jewelry as pieces of ornament is to look beautiful and this trend is not confined to recent times but rather from time immemorial, as jewelry has been associated with women for their personal beautification. The origin dates back to ancient times when beads and shells were used as body ornaments, while bones, wood, elephant tusk and ornamental stones were carved and etched to produce attractive artifacts.

They had widespread usage ranging from functional utility like pinning clothes or were status symbols and adorned the person from head to toe. However, nowadays the increasing demand for jewelry pieces has made craftsmen more creative and stunning items in gold, silver, platinum and gem stones have flooded the market in variety of styles and designs. The major items include necklaces, amulets, bangles, bracelets, earrings, nose ring, anklets to name a few.

Today, the jewelry designs are not merely based on the traditional metals, rather the contemporary jewelry items reveal a gamut of materials ranging from wire, tumbled stone and other lesser known elements. They create affordable and inexpensive items which are popular with masses and are used as accessories to highlight the wearer’s appearance. The manifold functions of jewelry are widely acknowledged. It is still used as a form of currency and exhibits the affluence of the owner. The lesser known usage includes buckles, clasps, brooches or pins, as well as amulets which are mostly worn to ward off evil influences, according to ancient superstition.

From the ancient periods, the trend of amassing wealth through jewelry acquisition still continues today. This is believed to stem from the fact that this pattern of stocking of jewelry is a source of future security against economical blow down or other such unforeseen eventualities. Wedding in the Asian countries still centers around jewelry gifts and exchanges between the two parties which again reinforces the phenomenon of security considerations. In some nations, it is a renowned practice for commercial trading while in other countries, jewelry, especially ornaments of gold, symbolizes group bonding and wearing a ring connotes the marital status of people.

The purity of American or European gold is specified in karats. While the American gold jewelry has at least 10K purity, the European ornaments center around 9K purity. In the Asia, Middle East and Africa, the gold jewelry of highest purity of 22K or 24K is mostly prevalent. Other precious metals such as Platinum alloy range of jewelry are of 90% and 95% purity while silver jewelry is predominantly known to be of sterling silver.

Costume jewelry primarily constitutes of items made of enamel, natural clay, stainless steel, glass and other such similar raw materials. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets and belts, etc., made of bead are also very popular, especially with the younger generation. Necklaces and bracelets made of …

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Beauty in Love Relationships, Marriage, and Dating

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Beauty in Love Relationships, Marriage, and Dating

Who wouldn’t want to be beautiful? What is beauty? Perhaps, we have all given these questions consideration at one time or another. I would opt to be beautiful if given the choice. Based upon some of my observations of standard beauty, I know it would give me a competitive edge as would youth. I have followed a beautiful woman around all day, many days, to see what it is like to be praised and admired by those people a beautiful woman meets. I have observed others in order to learn about the pros and cons of having an attractive appearance.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Anyone could potentially be beautiful according to another person. Some people prefer blondes. Others prefer tanned skin. Even others prefer tall people. Everyone has his own preferences; yet, there are some people who have facial and body proportions that are considered beautiful by the majority. Those people who tend to fall into the category of standard beauty tend to get a lot of extra attention throughout the day.

The attention given to a beautiful woman is that of having all eyes on her and that of receiving many compliments. People will talk to her a lot, offer her free drinks, offer gifts, ask for her address, invite her out, and more. At least this is what I observed while following a beautiful woman around all day for many days. She received so many compliments that it became somewhat annoying even to her. People lavished her with much praise for about everything she did. As she conducted her job search, potential employers told her they were looking for someone who was beautiful. One employer said she wanted to hire someone with a “beautiful presence.” Naturally, the beautiful woman found a job with no difficulty.

If being beautiful means a person can have more friends, find more jobs, and influence others, then it is obviously convenient to be beautiful. To be unattractive means that an individual has some proportions that are less standardized and more unusual. There are some obvious reasons why a person considered less attractive by the majority might benefit from the struggle to attract others. She will benefit by having to do her job better or by having to study diligently.

A person who is less attractive will be attractive to someone somewhere. He or she will have to work harder to prove himself in some areas or studies. In order to compete with the so-called “beautiful” person, the “average” person will have to go the extra mile. He or she might seek to be more courteous or creative. She might develop a special talent like art, singing, or a sport. Perhaps the less attractive individual will decide to read more books in order to be appreciated for her knowledge. She might become a learned person to prove herself. Those people who are not considered extremely beautiful will know what it feels to work hard to achieve something without relying upon …

The Pros and Cons of the GROW Coaching Model

The Pros and Cons of the GROW Coaching Model

It is uncertain who originally developed the GROW model but it is thought by some that it was developed by Graham Alexander but made popular by Sir John Whitmore.

For those new to coaching the GROW model does provide a very useful framework. By helping the coachee really identify what they want from the conversation it does help prevent it from becoming an aimless chat. If the goal is ‘SMARTend’ up you have a Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant goal with a Time Limit on it so both coach and coachee know exactly the direction the session should be going in.

This framework in also useful in a group coaching or even a business meeting context where the coach or facilitator at the outset can establish an overall common goal and for the session, then work through ‘where are now?’, options for the way forward and specific action.

But is this model always appropriate especially when working on a one to one basis helping your coachee make significant and sustainable change? Whilst of course it is good to have a sense of what the coachee wants from the conversation a good coach will often uncover other issues during the course of a coaching session and sticking rigidly to the initial goal may prevent the real issues to be tackled from surfacing.

Whilst the GROW model is intended to be flexible I have seen coaches focusing more on their ability to follow the model than just listen and follow the client. The Coactive coaching approach (see book Co-active Coaching by Laura Whitworth, Karen Kimsey-House, Henry Kimsey-House, Phillip Sandahl) is very different and it talks about ‘dancing in the moment’ with the client, listening carefully and using your intuition to just being with the client, following their energy and going where they want to go in the conversation.

The final stage of GROW is Way Forward in other words is the stage where the client identifies action to be taken. Whilst coaching is about taking a client forward not every session may result in specific action to be taken. If as coaches we are so intent on finding the action and focusing on the ‘doing’ we can overlook the importance of just raising a client’s awareness about who they are, what they are noticing, what they are feeling in other words ‘the being’.

I know of coaches who are so intent on getting their client to action that they fail to allow them to fully explore what is important to them and what their underlying issues are resulting in actions that their clients are not really committed to and rarely result in meaningful change. If the client spends sufficient time on ‘the being’ rather than ‘the doing’ then action will automatically fall out of the conversation and will be led by the client. And the way forward may simply be a commitment to go away and reflect further on some of the questions raised.

5 Logical Reasons To Dress Comfortable

5 Logical Reasons To Dress Comfortable

There are probably a great number of reasons for dressing in comfortable clothing but here are five reasons to consider if you want to give up the uptight lifestyle. It is hard, really hard to be creative or in a creative mood when you’re uncomfortable. It’s hard to let those creative juices flow when your worried about how you look. So here are 5 arguments for letting go and dressing in comfortable clothing.

The first stage of the creative process is dressing in clothing that make you feel great. Am I saying that you can’t be creative in uncomfortable clothing? No, but I am saying that wearing comfortable clothing gives you a heads up and an advantage that is hard to beat and who among us can’t use every advantage we can get..

1. You’ll Get More Work Done – When you have a big project to get done, what do you usually do? If you are anything like me you will get a cup of what ever you drink, for me it’s white tea, put on some good music and get into your “funkies”, you know what I mean those clothes that feel so good and comfortable you feel like a million when you wear them. Let your body be you. Once you have all those encumbrances out of the way you can begin your project whole heartily. Now you are relaxed and ready to go. Setting yourself up to work(win) like this increases your productivity every time.

2. You Do Better Work When You Are Comfortable – Allowing your body to relax and be comfortable takes all the distractions away so you can accomplish a lot more and better quality work will result. You’re not distracted by a stiff collar or a belt that is keeping in what wants so bad to get out. All those distraction are gone, you can concentrate on the task at hand knowing that your body is ready to get on with the task.

3. Not watching For The Clock – I know that when I’m uncomfortable I can’t wait to get home and to get into something comfortable so I’m constantly watching the clock, ready to get out of there at the slightest excuse and ready, willing and able to get into my “funkies”. A sure sign of not being productive is watching the time (can’t wait to get out of there and into something comfortable).

4. Your Work Becomes Enjoyable – Providing you are doing a job you like, you’ll enjoy working when you wear clothing that is soft and comfortable like the Pajama Jeans. Work is no different than relaxing at home if you wear clothes at home that cause you to feel uncomfortable you’re going to feel uncomfortable just “chillin”, except that being uncomfortable you won’t be able to “chill”. When you wear clothing that you enjoy wearing, look good in, your countenance just shout’s “look at me, I’m worth knowing”.

5. Life saving professionals already wear comfortable clothing for …

Is it Fake Or Real? How to Spot Real Sterling Silver Jewelry

Is it Fake Or Real? How to Spot Real Sterling Silver Jewelry

Silver is an attractive and sophisticated metal that would make a great complement to any jewelry collection. While real silver does not actually cost much, compared to the likes of gold, there remains a wide market for the sale of sterling silver, particularly among the younger consumers.

Unfortunately, to the untrained eye, comparing fake versus sterling silver can be quite a task — and sellers often take advantage of this lack of knowledge and sell fake versions at the price of the authentic ones. Your goal, therefore, is to find out how not to get duped.

Fake Vs Sterling Silver

How can you tell fake from sterling silver? Here are a few tips:

1. Real silver is stamped with a hallmark.

Like gold, authentic silver comes with a small stamp or engraving which contains information about its silversmith and the date it was made. Whether it is machine engraved or hand engraved is pretty easy to distinguish by just looking at it. A stamp that has ‘EPNS’ on it is an indication that it is sterling silver, as it simply means ‘electro plated nickel silver’.

2. Silver jewelry must be at least 92.5% pure silver.

Silver used alone is too soft to function properly as jewelry. Thus, all silver jewelry should be at least 92.5% pure silver, with the rest made up of appropriate alloys to help it harden. This is normally indicated by a “925” engraving on the jewelry itself. Of course, the lower this number, the closer it is to being less and less real silver. These engraving can be difficult to spot-look on the back of pendants, on clasps, and on the inside of rings for real silver markings.

3. Watch out for silver plate: Silver colored jewelry may simply be silver plated.

Silver plated jewelry, which is not totally real silver, would usually have an “A1” stamped on it, along with its makers engraving. When the silver tarnishes or chips off, it reveals the real metal used underneath, which can cause skin problems, like rashes and metal allergies, for some people. Beware of buying items that are simply silver plated, especially if your skin is hypersensitive.

4. Run it through a nitric acid test. A great way to test whether the silver jewelry you have is the real deal is by testing it nitric acid. You can choose to have this done by the local jewelry shop or you may do it yourself.

To do this, select a part of the jewelry that is least noticeable as the site to run your test. Rub this portion thoroughly to cause a break in the plating of the surface. Place a few drops of nitric acid onto the site and wait a few minutes. If the liquid becomes cloudy grey, then it is sterling silver; but if it becomes green, then what you have in your hands is simply silver plated.

Always keep in mind that there is no such thing as silver jewelry that is 100% pure …

How To Find Elusive Football Draws

How To Find Elusive Football Draws

The football draw game – hard to find them isn’t it? Eight of these are key to winning the UK treble chance football pool, but maybe you just want to find two or three for a specialised fixed odds bet, or a range of trebles, maybe in an Australian, German, Spanish or Italian league. Typically, on a league weekend in the UK football season and 49 matches on the coupon, there will be on average, 9 scoring football draws, and of these, many will have been predictable using a good forecasting system. No-score football draws average out at about 4-5 per week.

How do we find them?

Well, in the British league season, most teams play close to ‘form’, but Cup matches are more of a lottery when ‘giant killing’ happens fairly frequently, and are best avoided if you are serious about winning the football pools. So, to start, we only bet when the odds are optimal, and that means league games. In fact, we don’t bet when ‘form’ is likely to be compromised – e.g. on Boxing Day.

With a good football draw forecast system, you will be able to keep track of form and eliminate those matches which are certain home wins – there could be typically 22 home wins, many of which will have been easy to predict. As to away wins, these are harder to predict, and there will be, on average, 13-14 away wins on the coupon each week.

So, let’s say that we can predict 90% of the home wins – that’s roughly 19 matches, and maybe 50% of the away wins – that’s another 7 matches. So, out of the coupon as a whole, with a reliable forecasting system we can expect to predict 26 matches (homes and aways). That leaves 23 matches, from which we have to find 8 football draws.

Now, with a good plan or perm, which combines maybe 17 or 18 forecasts – some plans even give a coverage of 24 matches, then you can see that the odds of getting 8 football draws in a line are considerably enhanced. Sure, using a plan means that you sacrifice perfection to achieve greater coverage (after all there are 451 million ways of selecting 8 football draws from 49 matches). You probably will not hit the jackpot, but you will have more frequent wins of lower value, and should be able to move into profit.

So, you can see that an efficient football draw prediction system is essential.

What are the key aspects of a good football draw forecast system?

Well, besides knowing when to stake and when to avoid betting and throwing your money away, you have to be able to analyse form and come up with football draw predictions. When it comes to form, how far back should you go? How will a team which was promoted from the Championship perform in the Premier League (and vice versa?)

Child Modeling: Five Characteristics of a Successful Child Model

Child Modeling: Five Characteristics of a Successful Child Model

The child modeling industry can be a tough business, but there are many differences between what child modeling agencies are looking compared to adult modeling agencies. The two industries can be worlds apart, and the ways in which you and your child can stand out are probably more straightforward than you might think.

In the child modeling industry, it’s not all about beauty. Agencies are looking for children of all shapes and sizes with every type of appearance. You don’t just have to have a gorgeous child to stand out from the crowd. In fact, there are five characteristics which will help you go far in the industry – and beauty is but one!

So what are child modeling agencies really looking for in a successful model?

  1. Be natural and photogenic. Everyone knows that photogenic children have the best starting point, and yes this is the first characteristic of a successful child model. Acting naturally in photographs and coming across well is critical. But many children will meet this criteria yet only ever get a couple of paying jobs because they are missing the other 4 critical characteristics. What else do we need?
  2. Be easy to work with. It’s really important that your child (and you, as the accompanying parent) are easy to work with. This means being polite, attentive, listening and acting on instructions from the director, and being well behaved. If you make the clients and modeling agencies lives easy, they’ll be jumping at the chance to work with you again in the future!
  3. Have a strong work ethic. You need to be willing to put the effort in and travel to casting calls and photo shoots even knowing that you won’t always have success and the day will be tiring. Clients can be picky, but those which work hard to show up to events wherever they are, and on time, are like gold dust.
  4. Be willing to say “yes”. It’s critical that you do make the most of the job offers you and your child get given. Make yourself available to attend the shoots you’re offered – meaning if you’re not available, you need to reschedule your life as necessary in order to say “yes” and take the work. If you can’t or won’t take offers of paid work, the clients will stop offering it to you.
  5. Have a good reputation. Both the child modeling agencies and the clients they send you to will remember both the best and worst attendees at casting calls and even on the job. If you’re consistently exhibiting all of the above characteristics, your reputation will build and soon you’ll be getting offers left, right and center from eager photographs and agencies who know how easy to work with you are and who can’t wait to give you work.

As you get known for exhibiting these qualities, you’ll soon be a roaring success. As a popular model, you may find yourself having to say “no” (contrary to the above characteristics!) but that’s …

Four Keys to Improving Your Prophetic Gift

Four Keys to Improving Your Prophetic Gift

Do you have a prophetic gift? Have you ever felt led by the Holy Spirit to speak a word of prophecy over another person? Have you ever wanted to increase your anointing as you give a word from God to someone? Do you want to improve your gift?

Key 1: Love

The best key to becoming an effective witness and bringing strong and impacting words to other people is demonstrating your love for people. Any person can have a gift of prophecy and operate in that gift, but the release of power and the depth of the gift as you share it with others is closely linked to the love that the prophetic person has for others.

When you don’t have love for people, you will fear stepping out and giving accurate but risky words of knowledge that are very specific to a person. However, when you have the love of the Lord Jesus in your heart for people, then you will not allow the fear of getting it wrong stop you, and you will step out and prophesy even when your words sound weird.

I heard Shawn Bolz share that he was with a skeptical businessman for dinner who didn’t believe in God. Shawn asked God for a specific word for him and then started to recite a twenty-digit number that was made up of numbers and letters and all sorts of characters. The man stopped him half-way through the recitation and asked him how he knew the number. It was the entrepreneur’s private business account number that only he and his lawyer knew. This man’s wife did not even know the number.

Shawn told the man that God had told him that number, and he didn’t realize the significance of it. The man believed in God from that day.

Key 2: Compassion

Many people are saved but not all of them carry the compassion of the Lord Jesus with them. Your love and compassion will cause you to prophesy to a stranger that you meet as you conduct your business each week. When the Lord gives me a word for a stranger, love and compassion for the person allows me to walk up to them, interrupt their conversation and share a prophetic word.

Jesus had a lot of compassion for people, and because of that, he ministered to many more people than a normal person would minister to. To grow in anointing and power, you need to grow in your compassion for people.

Key 3: Practice

Shawn Bolz has an amazing gift of word of knowledge, yet the gift does not remain dormant. Every time he ministers, he reaches out with very specific words of knowledge that he has been given from the Lord when he spent hours before the Lord.

Shawn does not rest on his laurels and his reputation. He regularly releases very risky words of knowledge when he ministers, and he trusts that the words of knowledge are about someone in the audience.

Personally, I …

Chaucer’s Style and Contribution

Chaucer’s Style and Contribution

J.M. Manly avers in the Cambridge History of English Literature, ‘Fourteenth century was a dark epoch in the history of English’. This statement is both historically and linguistically correct when applied to the medieval period. The English Language was in infancy and required the hands of a craftsman and the mind of a genius to reach its maturity. This task was left to no other than Chaucer because other notable writers of the age namely Wycliffe, William Langland and Gower wrote little in English. Even Shakespeare felt doubtful about the future of English in sixteenth century when much had already been accomplished, but it was Chaucer who adopted a distinct style in writing in English. Literature and language were in the process of formation, which were established on firm foundations by Chaucer. That is why Dryden hails Chaucer as ‘Father of English literature’.

English is linguistically divided into three periods: Old English dating from 5th to 14th century, Middle English from 14 to 18 century and the Modern English from 18 century to present day. Chaucer was born in what is called the Age of Middle English. His style and contribution to the English Language are remarkable. That is why David Daiches avers, “with Chaucer English language matured”. The remark is true as earlier writers like King Alfred used English as it was and made no significant changes.

The Prologue is Chaucer’s most celebrated and established work in which he uses a narrative style to express his viewpoint. He uses several poetic devices to liven up his style. Chaucer followed the rhetorical principles laid down by Gaufred de Vinsauf in his “Nova Poetria. These principles are description and narration. His descriptive and narrative technique is nowhere so visible as in the Canterbury Tales. In the prologue, he uses mainly the descriptive style and in the Tales, he employs the narrative style. The most remarkable thing is that he consummates the his style as averred by Robert P. Miller, “Chaucer subtly adapted language and perspectives to his individual tellers and thus established a model for Shakespeare and the Elizabethan dramatists” Why Robert Miller or David Daiches credit Chaucer can be best understood by examining the salient characteristics of his style.

Firstly, Chaucer’s style is marked by lucidity of expression, joyous originality and easiness free of ambiguities and direct philosophical maxims. In describing nearly all his characters, he uses colloquial language easy to understand for a common man. For example, Chaucer says, Knight was as meeke as maide or Prioress leete no morsel falle from his lippes. His similes and metaphors are befittingly employed throughout the Prologue. Secondly, his style is not bookish or crammed. His style is rather cultivated and tailored as much to the intellectuals as to the laymen. This is the reason The Prologue has been popular with men of all levels of understanding. Thirdly, style is humorous and ironical. His style is not pointed like that of Juvenal or Swift, he does criticize society, in fact his Prologue …
